Wasabi — My New Rush

I never liked eating Wasabi… especially the feeling of it going up your nose and potentially exploding through every pore of your body. But then, everybody eating sashimi eats wasabi, so I have to do it too.

I remembered the look on my Grandpa’s face every time I declined some wasabi. I disgraced the family. I was a non-wasabi-or-spicy-food-eating member of the Chang clan and that was humiliating. Although, I have made progress in spicy-food-eating, and my mom is proud of me for that.

Thus, I set out to overcome my non-wasabi-eating-ness and to just get down and inhale that green stuff when Charles partially treated us to Todai on Sunday. I piled it on and put some soy sauce in and dang, is it supposed to look that green? I forced that sucker down my mouth and … how can I describe the feeling…

It feels like dying. It goes straight up your nose and you can just feel the little wasabi aliens in the wasabi attacking your head. And then, it’s all over and you can do it all over again. SUCH A RUSH. And my sinuses have never felt so clear. BRING IT ON!

Here’s a picture of one of my new best friends and my protege:

Matthew Blue Steel

He’s got the perfect look in his eyes for Blue Steel, but we’re going to have to work with the mouth a little.
