So You Want to Know About Relationships

We grilled the pastors and their wives last night. Here are a few of the highlights — some serious, some not at all.

matthew, stretching his shirt out: I’m having a baby!

pastor david and pastor eddie both had long distance relationships and thus they used to communicate over the telephone a lot. just talking on the phone is good. it teaches you how to communicate verbally, to understand a girl’s tone of voice and expression. and it takes away the physical aspect/temptation of the relationship.

pastor david: (andrea) is the drug of my life. i’m addicted to her.

awkward silences are okay. “I’m just happy to know that you’re still alive on the other line. I’m just happy to hear you breathing.”

pastor david would sometimes get really tired on the phone, because of the 3-hour time zone difference. andrea said that sometimes she would ask a question and david would just say, “yah. yah.” and then when david fell asleep, andrea would say stuff to his subconscious. “you love me david. you WILL love me. you will serve me forever. i am your only girl.”

do little things to show that you appreciate a girl, that you’re thinking of her. like putting the toothpaste on her toothbrush. but, make sure that it’s the right toothbrush and the right toothpaste.

girls dig godly men and guys dig godly girls.

Chloe: “When he’s happy, I’m happy.”

same future direction is very important in a marriage

guys, be very sneaky.

Chloe: “So do any of you guys like any of the girls in Turf?” [Awkward silence. Then Angela comes in to drop off Matthew. As she’s closing the door…] Charles, jokingly of course: We can’t talk about Angela right now. I can’t share my feelings of affection for her.” [More awkward silence] Terrible timing, Charles.

to pastor david and pastor eddie: the young adult men of turf have evaluated your marriages and we have come up with two ways to make your marriages at least 20 percent more efficient than they already are. we will not tell you which one applies to you; you gotta figure it out yourself. from chloe and andrea: 1) There needs to be more public displays of affection. some people don’t even know i’m married! and 2) Be less independent. I want to take care of you too!

Regarding Operation Christmas Child:
Pastor David: “How bad would it be if we sent toys that were “Made in China” to kids that were in China? ‘Hey! I made this!”

Okay that was bad.

And for a few things I thought every guy would already know about:

When walking around with a girl, the guy stands on the outside, the side that is closer to the street. And guys need to be kind. And girls like steak.

But I think we can all agree that 1) girls are confusing 2) girls like messing around with guys’ minds 3) but guys still like girls and 4) us guys are screwed. =(
