Nice Call That Almost Didn’t Get Played
September 28th, 2005 Dan Chou's Story of the Week
Everyone has heard of stories like this, with kids that have terminal diseases and corporations that are willing to help them grant one last wish.
This article stood out to me, however, because of the things that happened en route to fulfilling this boy’s request. The requests I tend to hear about are kids who want to go to Disneyland, or perhaps he wants a new bike. Calling a play for a college football team sounds like a simple request, but it was also very hard for the team to come through with it.
Even more touching was the fact that the boy had already passed away the Friday before the game. Still, the coach and the team (Notre Dame) made good on their promise. They still “passed right,” despite it being right after a fumble recovery and when no one thought that the play could go through.
Probably because I go to USC, there’s a certain amount of cockiness when it comes to college football. We are, after all, the defending two-time National Champions. But something more universal and more important than winning, is compassion. It makes all the difference.

A Rocket Or Something
September 22nd, 2005 Entries

On the way back to my dorm from volleyball, I heard people around me saying, “Yeah dude, look to the south and up into the sky!” People outside my dormitory were all looking up, and of course I looked up. Not sure what I was expecting really, but that is from what I saw in the sky, after running back to my room and grabbing my camera.
Danielle said that it was a rocket or something. So I guess I’ll have to wait and see if it’s in the news.
Edit: It WAS a rocket! Link to the LA Times Article
