Lawn Circle

I looked out into our backyard yesterrday afternoon and look what I saw!

Okay it was just me mowing the lawn and thinking of an interesting mowing pattern I haven’t done yet. Curves, zigzags and diagonal cutting patterns get pretty boring sometimes.
Hotel Rwanda

Beautiful. No, it wasn’t the human suffering,–the hatred that made people treat their neighbors like dogs–that was beautiful. It was the story, of how one man became an unlikely hero, that was so beautiful.
I’m not one of those guys who easily sheds tears. No, I’m a macho man. But seriously, this movie brought a few tears to my eyes. It makes you wonder–how could people who see such pain, hear such anguish, and know that this suffering was part of reality…. how could they not DO SOMETHING. Watching this movie, I just had this incredible urge to curse the bureaucratic system that runs this world. Will helping these Rwandans help out my country? What do I have to gain from saving them?
And yet, in the middle of all this, there were common heroes being recognized: The UN Colonel who was doing more than he could manage across the entire country. The Red Cross “Madame” who made repeated trips into the fiercest of the fighting just to save two little girls. And of course, Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager of the Milles Collines Hotel.
Paul treats influential people well, so that they can one day return favors to him. He doesn’t want to bring the refugees into his hotel–it’ll ruin its reputation. But throughout the story, you’ll watch as he slowly gives in to a much, much higher calling.
A definite must see. And don’t forget while you watch–this IS a true story. It really happened. My only fear is that people will agree that it is a good movie, but neglect to take action the next time anything of this nature happens.

Video games are hard enough. Especially if you’re blind. But this is amazing!
