Two days ago, after much confusion about whether or not it would have English subtitles, I watched the latest Jay Chou/Anthony Wong/Edison Chen/Shawn Yue movie…and it was much better than I expected. Heck, even my mom agreed that it was good. And if my mom doesn’t like a movie, she’ll close her eyes and fall asleep, no matter how loud the music is blaring or how much the gun shooting scenes rattle her chair. So when you know she says something’s good, it’s good.
Asian movies are getting much better, starting from movies like Infernal Affairs and My Sassy Girl. There are actual plots now. The humor is much better and doesn’t rely on poop jokes as much. And the people they use have actual talent. Plus it doesn’t hurt that they use good looking characters that make the teenage girls (including my sister) scream/jump up and down/clap/faint whenever they see Edison Chen on screen.
I’m pretty sure there will be a sequel to this movie.
